◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? Ami is able to hack into things because of her incredible intelligence and computer abilities.
◎ Personality:
Young genius, loyal friend, soldier for justice, defender of the earth and galaxy, and somewhat a stick-in-the-mud. All these things describe Ami Mizuno also known as guardian Sailor Mercury and Princess of Mercury.
Upon first meeting Ami, she is quiet and reserved. She can even be considered awkward as she demonstrates difficulty in being a social person and making friends with people. Her timidness, when she is first met in the manga, is misconstrued as snobbishness and Ami seems unable to break through her own shyness to even correct these assumptions. When she’s engaged in conversation, she is extremely polite and soft-spoken, not likely to encourage discourse past normal pleasantries, and certainly not likely to start the conversation herself. Her shyness is what keeps her from making friends in the beginning of the series and Ami functioned this way for years until she was 14. Even Ami, if asked, would openly admit to her unease in social situations and that her only skills were in studying, reading, and computers.
However shy she is, her brilliance is not something that can be hidden. Ami scores the highest in her exams, not just in the tests at her school, but nationally in Japan. Ami can analyze any situation in a matter of seconds. She can watch someone do something, like Usagi playing a video game, and not only understand what needs to be done, but then master that ability. Even her enemies, later in the series, recognized her intelligence and would find themselves trying to challenge it, only to fail. Ami’s capable of taking small pieces of information and putting the whole puzzle together. Just like her introverted-personality causes people to think she’s standoffish, her intelligence can easily intimidate people.
Well, unless that someone is Usagi Tsukino, the physical embodiment of sunshine. Usagi was Ami’s first friend. She wanted to become her friend when she saw that Ami’s silence was not from snobbery, but timidness. Usagi saw that Ami was actually quite gentle and kind, cuddling with Usagi’s pet cat Luna. Usagi saw her brilliance not as something intimidating, but incredibly admirable and endeavored to get Ami to open up to her. Ami had never had someone so open and friendly towards her before. Ami was quick to reciprocate the act of friendship, spending time with Usagi and admiring the other for her openness and friendliness. That Ami turned out to be Sailor Mercury really just ended up being a bonus to the whole situation.
The more the series goes on, the more everyone comes to realize that Ami is far more than just a reserved genius. As things progress, Ami shows that she isn’t just gentle and kind, but incredibly brave and loyal as well. She wants to help people, and save lives as a doctor. Once it’s revealed that Ami is Sailor Mercury, she doesn’t say "it's not for me," and pretend that such things as powers and other-worldly beings trying to hurt others should be left up to authorities. Rather, being Sailor Mercury makes saving lives a much sooner reality. At no point does Ami just disregard her newly gained powers and abilities, rather she willingly fights beside Usagi and the other senshi. She shows incredible bravery despite being only 14 when the series starts, fighting enemies who are willing to kill and harm others, as well as harm and kill her for that matter, for their personal gain. Despite being faced with such challenges, she not only fights but analyzes the enemies multiple times in order to try and get the sailor senshi an advantage on the enemy and is right in the thick of battle alongside the others. Ami faces monsters and dangers and helps defeat such things with a firm resolve. She especially can’t stand seeing someone use their intelligence on others in a malicious way, wanting to see knowledge used only for good and the betterment of society.
While Ami doesn’t make many friends outside of the senshi throughout the rest of the series, what friends she does make, she holds dear. She stands by them through thick and thin, even when things look bleak. Usagi is especially held dear to her, not just as her princess and future queen, but as her first friend among all the girls. Ami develops close bonds with all the girls in different ways. In fact, she wants to ensure they succeed, offering to help them study for tests and homework, as well as enforcing the importance of doing well on tests for the future. Ami never show unease from being included in group activities, enjoying spending time with the girls, unless it interferes with cram school or studying. In this way, she is considered a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, regarding schooling as more important than fun. However, the girls can usually persuade Ami to join them for fun activities rather than study, or if Ami is so deeply entrenched, they accept her decision and potentially even study with her.
Ami becomes far more confident as things progress, however, as the Infinity and Dream Arcs show, she still has some major insecurities. Due to her parents being divorced, her father not really involved in her life and her mother always being busy from being a doctor, Ami fears that distance between her and parents. She is scared that they will leave her completely, this same fear applies to her friends. Ami also fears failing and not achieving her own dreams and aspirations. However, she grows and develops, realizing that being a senshi doesn’t stop her from attaining these things. Her desires to be with Usagi and the girls and being a doctor don’t have to conflict. Being a senshi and being a Doctor are both goals she can realize and Ami knows she has the support of the other girls to reach these aspirations. Though some fears still linger in her heart, Ami does have complete and unwavering faith in her friends, especially in Usagi. Ami believes that eventually Usagi will always succeed, willingly throwing down her life to protect Usagi and the other senshi, which she does multiple times throughout different arcs in the manga.
As a pretty suited senshi, the princess of Mercury, and the guardian to the moon princess, Ami actually balances being a teenager and the duties of a senshi quite well. Her hobbies are chess, computers, swimming, and reading. In fact, Ami will read anything, from novels to comic books, magazines, and romance novels, so long as she’s reading. Although she does enjoy romance novels more than she’d like to admit (pop culture too, for that matter). Despite her enjoyment for romance novels, Ami herself gets flustered easily by love letters and flattery directed at her personally. This is specifically addressed in Ami’s First Love, she will break out into hives and a rash when she is forced to deal with love letters. Flattery and compliments tend to make her blush and a bit flustered. That doesn't mean, however, that Ami doesn't want to fall in love. Ami's attraction is to the mind before the body. She actually has a crush on Albert Einstein because of how intelligent he is. She'll always be attracted to someone's mind first and foremost. Though, even Ami has her moments of just crushing on a guy because he's cute, as seen when she had a crush on Motoki, the game center part-timer. Ami, while she's attracted to someone's mind above all else, is able to objectively appreciate someone's beauty, regardless of gender. It was because she could appreciate how beautiful Rei was, that Usagi and Rei even met.
Also seen in Ami’s First Love as well as the Infinity arc, is Ami’s competitiveness. Due to how intelligent Ami is, she always tops the charts in tests and exams, so when someone challenges her intelligence, intentionally or otherwise, Ami is quick to accept, wanting to succeed above them and in some ways, crush the competition. Most of the time this competitiveness is in good sport, but sometimes Ami can really obsess about the competition (this is more true in Ami’s First Love than it is in the Infinity Arc).
To calm herself down or to clear her head, Ami often goes swimming. When she’s in or near water, she feels calm, having a close connection to it and even able to do some dowsing because of that connection. Most of her attacks are water, snow, or ice themed, further showing that connection both in and out of her senshi form. Due to Ami's relationship with water and all its forms, this actually reflects in her logic as well. Ami's thoughts are constantly flowing and moving, but she can also be considered quite cold and calculating at times, allowing her to be incredibly determined in her goals to the point of going extreme. In Ami's First Love, she studies to the point of collapsing from fever, to give an example of how much she's willing to throw herself into achieving a goal.
Water and chess are how Ami calms herself down, feeling the serenity and clarity they offer respectively. This is particularly important because even though Ami becomes more confident and open as the series progresses, Ami remains rather uptight. She maintains tight schedules for cram schools, studying, friends, eating, and just about everything else. It’s not uncommon for the other girls to insist Ami needs to relax and unwind. However, her schedules are, more often than not, easily forgone so that she can spend more time with the girls and are always disregarded in the face of an enemy.
Ami, the guardian of Intelligence, is far more than just a bookworm. She’s brave and devoted, just like the other senshi. She’s gentle and kind, sometimes getting flustered and awkward, and maybe a little uptight. Once she’s able to open up to those who can see past her shyness, she’s loyal to the friends she makes and will stay beside them and sacrifice everything for them.
◎ Powers/Abilities:
Ami has many abilities and items both in and outside of civilian form.
Abilities:Super Intelligence: Ami is a genius and basically a child prodigy. She has a rumored IQ of 300, can make snap analysis as well as take in multiple forms of data to find the most accurate approach to situations. She is also a master at playing chess. She can easily understand advanced science and math, excelling at any academia she puts her mind to.
Adept at Technology: Of all the senshi, Ami is the most adept at technology and computers. Using even a computer in battle early in the series. She's able to hack into things and if she doesn't initially know how to use something, she need only watch someone using it and figure out how to use it.
Dowsing: Because of her connection to water, Ami can actually dowse water without any instruments, able to naturally sense and hear it no matter how far it may be from her.
Swimming: Ami is actually a very skilled and very fast swimmer but she doesn't swim competitively, only using water to calm herself down and to relax.
Sailor Mercury Abilities:
Physical Abilities: Once transformed into a senshi, she has heightened physical abilities such as running, jumping, fighting, and strength. Of all the senshi, Sailor Mercury's physical abilities are probably the lowest, using her brain to her advantage above all else.
Mercury Aqua Mist: Using her ability to manipulate water while as Sailor Mercury, Ami can create solid and dense clouds of mist and fog, chilling and blinding the enemy allowing the other senshi or allies of the senshi time to create and use more direct attacks. This attack is usually defensive in nature but it can defeat weak enemies.
Hyperspatial Sphere Generate: Used only once in the manga to protect the arcade Ami and the senshi have their hideout at and how it works isn’t entirely clear. However it seems to distort the space around its user, creating a "subspace pocket" separated from the rest of the world. This is a defensive ability and Ami can only use it if wearing the Mercury Goggles.
Shine Aqua Illusion: An offensive attack that blasts enemy with a powerful stream of water which can freeze an enemy in place. It is the first straight offensive attack that Mercury has. Mercury can also use this attack to create a barrier of solid ice between her and the enemy.
Shine Snow Illusion: An offensive attack. Mercury is able to create a powerful freezing blizzard and use it to surround her enemy. It can freeze an enemy completely, thus destroying them
Mercury Aqua Mirage: An offensive attack. It engulfs an enemy in a pool of water and will then burst, destroying the object inside.
Mercury Aqua Rhapsody: The most powerful of Mercury’s attacks. Using the Mercury Harp that Mercury is able to summon, she plays the harp and sends incredibly powerful blasts of water at the enemy. The blast is also capable of freezing the enemy and destroying them in that matter. Mercury can also use the attack to weaken the enemy if they are much stronger than her.
Sailor Senshi Transport/Attack/Power transer: When combined with the senshi, she is able to transport across incredibly wide distances such as from the Earth to the Moon. She is also able to lend her power to an attack with the Sailor Senshi. She can even transfer her power to Usagi to grant her the Holy Chalice. Using her combined strength with the other senshi, she can in fact, create a magical barrier that can protect/contain a wide area of at least several acres
◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
Mercury Crystal: The Mercury Crystal is an actual item but it is held within Ami. It is in fact connected to her and its destruction causes her death. The Mercury Crystal is how Ami transforms into Eternal Sailor Mercury when she cries out the phrase to activate the transformation.
Mercury Harp: Ami has the ability to summon the Mercury Harp while as Sailor Mercury. With the harp, she can perform her most powerful attack, Mercury Aqua Rhapsody. The Mercury Harp can only be summoned by Mercury and no one else.
Micro-miniature Super Computer/Compact: This enables her to make special calculations, scan her surroundings, track the movements of allies as well as foes, and determine her enemies' weak points and use them in battle. It also has the ability to detect fluctuations in the environment among normal modern-day laptop abilities (no games though).
Mercury Goggles: The Mercury Goggles work in sync with her super computer which analyze the area around her and display information in front of her eyes and on the computer.
Mercury Visor and Microphone: The visor and microphone materializes across her face when she touches her earring. The microphone allows her to communicate with Luna at the Sailor Soldiers' hideout during the manga's first arc.
Senshi Communicator: A wristwatch that allows her to talk to the other Senshi. It only works and connects to the other senshi's wristwatches. It cannot be hacked into, however the signal can be disrupted is there is enough interference in the area.
CEREALIA-Specific

◎ First-Person Sample:
[Ami had been informed of everything going on. Had broken down knowing her home, her loved ones, her princess had been destroyed by an enemy she knew nothing about. But for all the turmoil boiling within, she needed to know what was going on; and she wasn't going to get answers by panicking. Quite the opposite.
Panic only ever led to bad decisions. So, she showed nothing on her face when she turned on the device. Ami offered a smile, instead.]
I beg your pardon for the interruption. [She gave a little bow.] My name is Ami Mizuno, a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am afraid I am new to all of this. If someone would please be willing to point me in the direction of the library, or what may be the equivalent of in this colony, I will start informing myself right away about my situation here.
I know this may seem an inconvenience, and I greatly apologize, but any help would be appreciated.
◎ Third-Person Sample:
One deep breath. Two. Three.
Ami gazed out the window, watching the stars above and unable to find the right name for the constellations, at least, for now. She would have to familiarize herself with this place if she was going to help it. Still... to know that Usagi... that everyone was destroyed. It sent a shiver down her spine and flipped her stomach. Her hands clenched against the window. She had failed her princess, her queen. She had failed earth, she couldn't even remember fighting. All she could remember was waking up after returning home from the battle with Galaxia, when Usagi had saved them all.
Four. Five.
But at the moment, those memories meant little to her.
Usagi was dead, the Sol system was destroyed. But there had to be hope. If she could come back, if Rei and Minako could come back, then surely Usagi and the others could as well. She had to. Ami moved away from the window, feeling a hand clench around her insides and squeeze, bile rising in her throat. She pushed back the feeling, taking a deep breath and counting to ten. Panicking would do absolutely nothing. Getting upset would not help.
Six. Seven.
Her fingers ran along the spines of the books, feeling comfort ease her shoulders as she did so. Some things, even in the future it seemed, didn't change. But more importantly, Ami would seek out the answers she needed. The answers may not be readily apparent, not yet, but the knowledge would eventually yield to her, no matter how long the hunt would take her. She would have to seek the virtual database as well. Ami needed to get all the information she could on this colony, on her enemies, on their location within the galaxy, everything and anything. No line of text was too insignificant, no amount of text too small, she would absorb as much information as she could and sort out the pieces to the puzzle presented.
If she was going to be of any use, if she was going to help the girls, she needed to know what she was dealing with. She was the guardian of love and knowledge, the soldier of wisdom. Before she could fight her enemies, she needed to know what they were. Know thy enemy, and more importantly, know thy self. What good was it to attack or even plan against an enemy she knew nothing about?
Ami couldn't understand it.
How did she and the other senshi not defend the planet? What was this enemy? What was this... species that had ravished so many planets and galaxies? If it was in the future, did that mean this was during the reign of Neo Queen Serenity? Or after Sailor Galaxia? How could they defeat Eternal Sailor Moon, never mind Neo Queen Serenity? How was no one able to stave off this threat?
Eight. Nine.
She had so many questions! Ami hated not knowing, especially regarding an enemy this powerful! Ami put on her glasses and plucked the book she was looking for off the shelf. There were answers here, it was just a matter of finding them. But she would find them, one way or another, she'd tell Minako and Rei the results of her findings as soon as she could.
Ten.
She straightened her back and cracked open the book. She would find the answers they would all need.
